"Pretty Girl/Plain Girl" Scene - Reflection
Reflection
I think preparing and performing a scene for our last project specifically was a good choice. After working our way up to this project throughout the course of this class, I think using this as the finale to the class was a good way to wrap everything up. From our "Director's Vision" project, we took away what its like to use space in a scene and how to use it and take advantage of it. We also had practice with costume, lighting, choreography, and props through that practice which is incorporated in our scene as well. Thus, the knowledge we acquired from that previous project can be applied to this project, which I think we did. This helped with our scene.
After choosing this scene, we ran it many times. I think the more times we had run the scene, the more we had understood and became comfortable with our character and the way we were portraying our character. As we improved our scene over the days we figured out what our characters would wear, how they would behave physically, how their presence looked in relation to the other, etc. I think by our final run of the scene, we understood our motives more thoroughly and were able to see our purpose in the scene and what the other character was to ours.
I think we learned how to work together and how the other character affects our role. Because of that reminder, we gave attention to areas that would have to be altered in order to fit with the other character. I think this helped us realize that in our scene, and any scene for that matter, its like working as a team. I think we learned how to work with each other effectively, as we discovered what works for us and what there was left to work on. Also, what's interesting is that originally we were playing each other's characters until we swapped roles to our current ones. We learned how some characters resonate with some more than others. Sahana and I found that between the two of us, we naturally portrayed the other better and it would make our scene better. We actually went back and forth sometimes playing the other role as a way to practice. This helped us get outside of our comfort zone and alter our thinking and routine. I think we could have worked on exercises like this more to help with our scene. It could have definitely improved our scene, for we saw progress made!
I think Sahana and I were more focused with this project and I like how we did it. I am satisfied with the results and am proud of what was accomplished. I really liked doing scene. It was a lot of fun to learn while liking what we were doing!
