Director's Vision Project Reflection
Reflection
As a team, I think Sahana and I worked really well together. In our collaboration, we combined our thoughts and ideas to create the scenery, costuming, choreography, use of props, lighting, soundtrack, and general design of the piece. We didn't argue about our decisions and the both of us contributed an equal amount to this project. Our ideas excited each other and we were very motivated to make this the best we could. I also like the spontaneity we had during the project. I think it is what made it so fun, unique, and creative. I think we did a pretty good job of thinking outside the box and experimenting with new ideas and trying certain things out.
Something I think we can improve upon for next time is planning out the angle we are filming from and how far away that will be from the stage. This is important to do in advance so you can experiment with the film and see what is working and what isn't. This way you can make sure that the production of this piece is filmed well so that it is clear to see the set and the actors, as well as it not being so close that its awkward or not capturing a big-enough picture. This will also prevent us from feeling rushed at all. This way, we can feel like we have better control over the filming process of this project.
Although a majority of our "director's vision" remained the same throughout this whole process, I believe that certain aspects of it altered and was influenced by new ideas along the way or by what Sahana and I said to each other, as well as suggestions made by the three of us: Ms. Guarino, Sahana, and me. For example, we stuck to our costume ideas, writing a description of them in our imagination, picking the ones that best fit our vision of it, and wearing them for the final performance. With the exception of the limited minor changes we made, for the most part we stuck to the same choreography from beginning to end. Our vision of Aladdin and Jasmine moving between levels like going from Jasmine's palace, to the sky, onto the magic carpet, and back into the clouds stayed. We liked the carefree and creative choreography of incorporating steps and such that weren't originally used in the movie. Our version was based on our "director's vision." The parts we changed throughout the process, aside from the small changes in choreography, include not using make-up for this scene, not using a magic carpet prop, and changing the soundtrack for our project. These changes came naturally and out of our spontaneity. I think these changes were for the better, as I think it added more originality and creativity to it.
